Please do not close your doors! My family has been going there since it openned....
We and many others will have "NO WHERE" to enjoy Thanksgiving Home Style and Delicious Buffet dinner this year, 2011.
The off-track horse racing has been a family favorite to long time go'er's and the summer time fun it provides to people up county and down county as well.
Is there any place up that way for us to make a reservation for Thanksgiving Day. Referals requested.
Thank you.
Charlene Joy (Delisi's (Elaine, Helen, Alan, Tim, Connie, Donald, etc.) Italiano's!

Twenty members of my family have all gotten together for the last two Thanksgivings at The Cracked Claw (old Peter Pan which I have been to many many times....I, too remember the relish caddy of long ago with the chow chow, apple butter, pickles, veggies and the great hush puppies as well as the "family" style dining offered at that time)
Each recent holiday visit has been WONDERFUL, and believe me ...it is very hard to get MY family to agree on anything but all are returning again ....for the third time for Thanksgiving 2010! In between the holidays lots of us have gone for the all you can eat crabs several times this year and once or twice we have gone just for dinner. (three also ordered from the menu and that was great also) The salad bar is small but has all the wonderfully FRESH items one would need to build a very tasty salad!
Our service was very good all of the times but I must say the Thanksgiving table service was outstanding! Can't wait for Thanksgiving!!!
(I NEVER sit in the smoking room...and cannot smell any in the dining room...I am allergic and I am always the first one to "sniff" it out!!!
Happy Dining!

I have eaten at the original Peter Pan in the past and have eaten the all you can eat crab dinner as well as the Thanksgiving Special....
all were great, both the staff and the food...no complaints here ...My family of 9 will be returning again this Thanksgiving...2009.
Remember folks...this is NOT the Peter Pan Restaurant of old...It is now the Cracked Claw and doing a darn good job of it.

I am trying to find out if this is the same place my husband and I celebrated our first anniversary in 1963? If so, it saddens me to hear what it is like now.
Back then, it was a classy place, with white tablecloths, napkins, etc. The food was fantastic, service impeccable, and was very quiet with a lot of ambiance. You could stroll through the gardens while waiting for your table and had a lot of glass windows.
It is sad to me that people have no sense of tradition or preservation of things past. I have thought about this place for 46 years and hoped to get back there someday, but now I'm not so inclined to make the trip. We were from Oklahoma. If this is not the same place, please let me know. Thanks

Wow whoever thinks this is a bad place to eat is wrong! Really good food. Nice people. And an overall good place to eat. I love their steamed crabs. Best in Maryland.

I have been going to Peter Pan all my life, and yes, once in time it was the place which was magical, the gardens with the mint julep. All the years we spent there for Mother's day were wonderful.
Now it is still charming, and the food every time we go is really good. Homestyle, and the crab legs are GREAT! I love Cracked Claw, and dont let anyone tell you differently. It is a cool place to go, casual, and fun, and very interesting history to it if you care to check that out

The Cracked Claw is a great place to get great quality seafood. Crabs, Crab Legs and Shrimp are offered in AUCE (all you can eat) portions and seemed to be very fresh. The atmosphere is pretty nice as well; not a fine dining restaurant but a casual dining place with professional and courteous staff. There is off-track betting but in totally seperate dining rooms. My family and I frequent this restaurant and would reccomend it to any family member, friend, or stranger.

It was not as it used to be 30 years ago. But what is? I enjoyed it. It is a step up from last year. Maybe will get better as they go. People need to quit looking for Peter Pan. It is a memory. I will return.

The Cracked Claw offers seafood at a great price. The other reviews on this page must have been to the Cracked Claw during betting hours because after 5:00 the TV's are turned off. The Cracked Claw has definently changed in the past year before that the food was not very good and the service was horrible. I suppose the reason woud be like a couple of other people said it is under a new manager's wing, that obviously has turned the Cracked Claw around in a whole new direction. Also, the cracked claw has a new sunday thing called "Blast From The Past" and they serve things that were served at the Peter Pan sum 30 years ago! Overall, the Cracked Claw would get a 4 or 5 star rating!

agree with gavin... its hard for a place to stay the same over so many years, especially if management changes...
I think the place is still very good... its hard to find nice places nowa days...

I have been to The Cracked Claw twice now and I love the food. The first visit we were served up until 11 even though we were told on the phone they stop at 10. The waitress told us it was not a problem. She was very nice to the men at the table, but ignored me and the other woman in our party. Then she talked about us over in the nearby corner with another waitress! I wasn't happy with that but everything else was great. We had the crablegs and they just kept coming, no wait in between trays.
The second visit we had a much better waitress. The only time we couldn't find her was when it was time to pay the check. Other than that she was very attentive for the 3 hours we were there. Again the food was very delicious and the trays kept coming even though it was a busy night for races. It was noisy when we first sat down, but we were warned about this before we were seated by the hostess. Once the races were over people started clearing out and the TVs were turned off. I plan to go back again at the end of the month for my birthday.

I have been going to the Cracked Claw for years, since I was a small child. The restuarant is just as I remember. The tv's are turned off during dining hours and the food was wonderful, and they still had the canning glasses as your cups! Of course you can smell a little smoke coming from the off track betting but where can't you smell smoke in a restuarant anywhere in Frederick or Urbana! The Peacock is still there and its a great place to eat! I would recommend it to anyone!

Times have changed folks; no restaurant is going to be the same as it was 30 years ago. Right now, the Cracked Claw (which isn't the Peter Pann Inn) is under fairly new management which seems to be working well. The wait staff, food selection, and atmosphere are all great. There is a seperate dining room for families rather than the off-track-betting (smoking) dining room. There are also other private dining rooms that can be rented. Overall, this is a great restaurant that I suggest to all!

Ditto to Helen's comments in March, except that my childhood took place in Washington. Peter Pan was worth the trip then. The Cracked Claw will not see me again.

What a shame. This restaurant was sooo nice when it was a real restaurant. I went there as a child with my Aunt on Sundays, and it was terrific. We were from Baltimore, and it was a haul just to eat there, but it was worth it. Brunch with the table centerpeice with hush puppies, cheeses, apple butter. Shirley Temples. Beautiful Gardens. Those wonderful peacocks. I wonder when someone will 'get it' that restaurants of my childhood are in demand. Elegant but welcoming. Lose the crab claw, get some class.

The crab feast is still a good deal

I agree with Molly. This place has lost everything we remembered back then. Times have changed and so has this restaurant. The dining room was dirty, the offerrings on the salad bar an embarrassment. I would rather dine elsewhere. Do you have to rate with a star? Cause I wouldn't.

Comments on this restaurant? Wear a gas mask. Don't expect to be able to taste your food through the smoke. Don't expect a nice atmosphere. Don't expect decent service. You won't be let down.

They have a new chef and i had an excellent chicken dish served with mashed potatoes and ham and garnished with shrimp, potatoe slices. The diner was excellent. Maybe you should go back to the dining room.
Also, Tammi and Cathy are excellent wait persons and beautiful to boot.

This restaurant has a long history and has had OK seafood in the past. Now, it's just a betting parlor that serves a little food on the side. Service is slow, food is mediocre at best, and unless you're into off-track betting, the hundreds of monitors showing various horse races are distracting and annoying. The place is always full of slack-jawed bettors and real restaurant customers don't get the attention they deserve. It's a darn shame!

Went there for a quiet dinner with my family and found the service to be horrible. I would not suggest this place to any one who is looking for a pleasant experience.
