I eat at Friscos all the time and love it. My favorite is the Embarcadero. (They are the only place I know that roasts fresh beef daily) Check these guys out!

I used to live upstairs from Frisco's Wisconsin Ave. shop, and thank goodness I routinely walked to work in Georgetown or I would have gained a hundred pounds! The North Beach, the Baja, the Embarcadero... the Santa Fe and the Juan Lobo... the Exploded Potatoes!!! I haven't had them in 10 years but I still crave them.
Date: January 14, 2010
Friscos is by far the best sandwich place in Frederick and my favorite place to go with visiting friends/relatives. Everything is good but personal favs include the Presidio and the North Beach. Definately a must-try
the exploded potatoes are worth the trip alone.

I ate there the other day and not surprisingly had my food given to another customer since the ordering, paying, and receiving is not apparent or logical. His meat was then scraped off his sandwich and magically became what I ordered. When the waitress delivered the food with no plate or utensils my other guests had she ignored my pleas and walked away. Then to add insult to injury, the cook came out to see if another table was happy with their meal and just glared at us. I got a refund and will not eat there again.

I used to agree with all the positive comments, except have noticed that AKA Frisco's is cutting corners and the qaulity is slipping. The Embarcadaro is an example, used to be one of the best Roast Beef sandwiches, but they changed the meat (down graded) and it is some synthetic texture meat now that is awful. The other sandwiches are good but no longer great.

excellent menue, the explosive pototoes are the bomb!!!!!
Date: December 30, 2008
The salads are delish, however I don't like that they put the dressing on for me (didn't know they would) and it was smothered in bacon. Next time I'll know to ask for a more diet friendly version.

The best in Frederick. Worth the effort to find it.

friscos is such a treat! our family always opts for their unique selections. now of course the legendary EXPLODED POTATOES are just as tasty as everyone here has already described, and frequent customers are sure to include them in their order. i'll fill you in on our faves:
my father loves the EMBARCADERO, a huge improvement from the typical roast beef sandwich with horseradish. one of my brothers often gets the UNION SQUARE. thats turkey, ham, provolone, ranch dressing, lettuce, tomato. the other brother perfers either the SANTE FE baked potato or KONG LOBO. the sante fe has some of their mouthwatering southwest chicken with homemade salsa (this reappears in many other dishes, to our delight) the kong lobo has chili, cheese, onion, bacon, and WICKED WOLF!!!-their kick butt hot sauce. what a beautiful condiment! i always flip for the WEST OF SANTE FE salad. returning with the southwest chicken is tons of lettuce, veggies,a little pasta, that awesome homemade salsa =], sour cream and cheese (i always ask them to remove the last two, otherwise theres a good bit of them present) my mother and sister always get the FRISCOS GRILLED WINGS. they actually are grilled, not fried, and keep their flavor surprisingly well. the dozen comes with a creamier version of wicked wolf and either mild (for us, we LOVE spicy food, so mild is sorta wimpy for us.) or hot (and boy, you can see the spice rub on it, absoluely mouth watering smell!)
gosh, and the employees are down to earth and considerate. not to metion, the wine selection are fun to look through. and the wayy cool ice cream attached has an amazing "way cooler", fruit smoothie swirled with good ol ice cream.
overall, a super find, and most definetly worth visiting...multiple times =]

I am a Frederick, MD native and really like this place. They do need to work a little harder on cleanliness.
the embarcadaro (roast beef and cheddar) is enormous and good...and the spicy chicken salad is good. Prices are starting to climb though, but that is to be expected.
Overall...very good sandwich.

The only downside was the volume of the music, which made it hard to hold a conversation with my lunchmate. Other than that, the food and service were great!
Date: March 24, 2008
WEST OF SANTE FE.............$6.25/4.95
This is the salad version of the famous Santa Fe baked potato. It is served on romaine lettuce. Lots of Southwest chicken is in the middle of the salad surrounded by veggies, pasta, sour cream, tomato salsa, & shredded cheese. It is as big as Texas and tastes even better.
What else can I say but YUM,YUM, YUM

I went to Frisco's today, actually because of the reviews on this site. I'd NEVER have found them otherwise since I'm never in that area and they don't advertise.
I wasn't as thrilled as many posters here seem to be, but it wasn't a total waste of money and was certainly good enough to justify trying a new place.
The staff weren't any friendlier than any other restaurant that isn't flat out rude. Despite the "large portions" claim they aren't any bigger than any sandwich on the same kind of roll (For instance, BWB's Chicken Sandwiches are the same size).
All of the dashed expectations out of the way, I think Frisco's is pretty neat. :) How often can you get a sandwich, a beer and an ice cream in the same place? The fact that Frisco's isn't a typical restaurant is quite appealing indeed.
The exploded potatos are certainly different, and perhaps even good. My brain wants a decision - is it potato salad or mashed potato?
The carryout bag was neatly packed and included forks and napkins. Another poster commented it was "self-serve" but I'm still trying to find a "full-service" place that actually puts forks AND napkins in the bag when your order would need it.
In all, I give it 4 of 5 stars. I'm sadly disappointed because I was expecting better but I probably wouldn't have any complaints at all if I hadn't gone in there expecting it to be better than anywhere else.

Frisco's is a crowd pleaser. They are great for catering - a nice, fresh variety of sandwiches, stuffed potatoes and/or salads. Whatever you'd like. Restaurant is informal and lively. Everyone loves the exploded potatoes.
Date: February 12, 2008
The food is incredible and the staffing is excellent. The two managers seem like they live there but also seem to be content with it because they are always so friendly and helpful. All the staff follows with how friendly they are as well. Its an excellent place to eat great food and feel at home. Must try the Lombard with a side of exploded potatoes, YUM!!!!
Date: January 12, 2008
We used to live in West Virginia and would eat at this restaurant every chance we got. We have moved since and talk about this place all the time. Every time we talk we drool over the potatoes. It has been a hard road without your meals. Long and hard an unsatisfying. We are willing to travel the many miles just to eat your food. Or, you could appease us with your recipe for a bart.

Friscos has an excellent menu , full of variety...Nothing at all is BAD!! my personal favorite, the Trans AM , and as everyone else has noted , the Exploded potatoes are Fabulous!! the baked potatoes are great too !
Date: December 10, 2007
We love Frisco's! Check it out on a Friday evening when they have the wine tasting. The flat iron steak is to do for and the wine prices can't be beat. Great place to pick up wine at very affordable prices.
Date: December 2, 2007
Great, great place. Really random location, but totally worth the extra five minutes.
Date: October 3, 2007
Some of the best food in Frederick, period! Give me an Oakland and some exploded potatoes and I'm set! Great service, great atmosphere, the best food...bad location. My only complaint!
Date: September 26, 2007
Far and away the best sandwich shop you'll find within 50 miles of Frederick. Any second place to Frisco's should be a distant, distant second.
Date: September 5, 2007
Sante Fe Chicken is OUTSTANDING!!! So are the exploding potatoes. Makes a great party treat.
Date: August 8, 2007
Absolutely fabulous. Frisco's has never served my family a meal they didn't devour with delight. We go back at least once a week, if not more often, depending on their monthly special.
Be sure to sign up for their e-mail so you can get all the goodies two. You can't beat the 1 for 1 deals and specials they give you.
All in all, their prices are great, the food is spectacular, and the service is definitely up to standard. This is one place worth digging through Frederick to find!
Date: August 4, 2007
Good sandwiches, the various potato side options left my stomach hurting because of the grease.
Date: July 11, 2007
Food is excellent...catering services are even better!

let me tell everyone this place started in washington dc on wisconsin ave. nw. i am a big fan of what john wolf the orignal owner had put together. i can say i was the first to try the baja (chicken salad sandwich) i found out that the store had moved i took to the net just to find it. i worked at the exxon gas station across from their shop and i had to have a kong lobo (potatoe with butter sour cream cheess ham onion andddd chillie) now that i have found them again i am going to drive from south east dc today to get a konglobo i dont mind the drive to get his food
Date: June 8, 2007
We use the exploded potatoes for get-togethers and PTA functions! They are the first things to go and are always raved about!!
Date: May 31, 2007
I was thrilled to learn that Friscos is still around. I and many, many individuals (and departments) here at WCL used to get lunch from Friscos when they were in northwest DC off of Wisconsin Avenue. We were all very depressed when you closed down your DC location. WCL misses you!
Date: March 19, 2007
Great salads and potatoes!
Date: January 30, 2007
Loved it, loved the food, loved the staff, loved the prices. But, hated the music volume played at an ear threatening level. Staff apologized, said they weren't allowed by management to adjust the volume. I'm afraid all those nice people will be deaf before their time! Next visit will be in warm weather and I'll sit outside!
Date: January 12, 2007
I am traveling over 750 miles just to get me some exploded potatoes!!!!
Date: December 29, 2006
We just had to try this place, and it was not so hard to find, if you look it up on the ADC map.
I ordered the North Beach, a chicken salad sandwich on homemade bread with tomatoes and lettuce. It was huge, and I took half home to my daughter. I had a small 99 cent order of the exploded potatoes, and there was a lot in that little cup. I took half of those home, too.
My DH ordered a cup of Friscos minestrone, but it was more like tomato sauce with pasta and spinach in it than soup. I don't know what their other soups are like. He also had a huge grilled chicken caesar salad. He seemed to enjoy it, and took most of it home. I was surprised to see they used packaged salad dressing instead of making their own homemade dressing. It was a good place for lunch, though, and we'll be back.
Date: September 30, 2006
Wow! What a nice surprise this is, tucked away in an industrial park, and with another layer of deceivingly industrial decorating once you get inside... but the food is astounding. I haven't found better sandwiches (or exploded potatoes) anywhere in the state! You can't even get anything this good in DC.
Date: August 27, 2006
Good food. Fast. Pleasant atmosphere.Fat boy sub is my favorite.
Date: June 10, 2006
Just give me the Exploded Potatoes! Amazing!!
Date: May 21, 2006
best subs in town, exploded potatoes covered with chili yumm!!
Date: April 26, 2006
Wowwee this place is hard to find, but LOL is it worth it! Yes! They have all the food they want and they make it faster than you can eat it! And it's delicious for you too! Everyone nice and there's food for each member of the family. Good for the vegetarian and the meat-hungry raptor as well! Much variety! Much variety, indeed!
Date: April 25, 2006
What a great find in the most unexpected places (hidden in an industrial park). Prepare to leave very stuffed while spending very little. Wonderful quality sandwiches, grilled wings, salads, potatoes (try the "exploded potatoes"- you've never had anything quite like it), ice cream, and cheap drinks with an amazing assortment of wine sold for almost no markup. Very casual, but very hard to beat-- one of Frederick's best choices.
Date: March 18, 2006
I was introduced to the restaurant by my mother and have told so many people about this place. And, now I saw that they have an Ice Cream stand. What better thing to have than the best deli sandwichs, soups(chili), cookies and follow it up by some great icecream. WOW!
Date: February 20, 2006
Best sandwich I have ever had; Really!
What's all the hype about the "Exploded Potatoes"? I'll tell you... they are freakin' FANTASTIC!!!
Date: February 13, 2006
Great restraunt to eat at! or for your catering needs.
Very kind people and service is quick.
Date: December 16, 2005
Very nice staff. The potato salad was awesome and the sandwiches were very good!
Date: September 23, 2005
Do not let the location fool you !!! The food is mostly sandwich type cuisine, but its all the Dagwood type. This is place for hungry people. Almost all the sandwiches come with three meats and two cheeses with special sauces. I highly recommend this place.
Date: July 24, 2005
this is the best place to go and eat lunch or get icecream. they are so frendley and am glad they got new hours so i can go later in the day and get lunch or icecream when my son plays football

This place IS the BEST sub shop in Frederick, and MAYBE even ALL OF MD!!!
Their quality & quantity & selection are OUTstanding, and well worth the reasonable price!
It is a diamond in the middle of a coal mine(industrial park), but not too far off the beaten path, so take the time & experience the Best lunch dining in Frederick!
Date: January 8, 2005
definitely a great place! They are wonderful when I go there for lunch and when I order lunch for meetings at my office. I ordered once and now everyone at my company wants to use them as well. The food is great and the service is awesome. I can only say good things about this restaurant!
Date: January 4, 2005
No where is better than Friscos! I eat there just about every day and it never gets old!
Date: December 29, 2004

One of the best casual restaurants we've ever been to. Their exploded potato, nachos and Chronicle chicken sandwich are fantastic. Service is always very good.
Date: October 10, 2004
Excellent food, nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Date: September 8, 2004
Be sure to print the directions, the restaurant is off the beaten path. But the food is definitely worth the trip! Exploded potatoes can be substituted for baked potatoes in the menu items... give them a try!

Awesome restaurant! Great staff - right on the ball. For meetings from 6 to 20 have handled everything well for our business.
Great at last minute orders as well. Highly recommend for business meetings or just any catering needs.
Date: April 8, 2004
I had no idea there was this gem of a restaurant hidden in an industrial park! I work off Industry Lane and it's an extremely welcome change to all the mundane that litters 335 & 85.

Comments on this restaurant?
This is one of the best restaurants in Frederick. The great selection of items, from the SF Fatboy to the Redwood Potato is absolutely outstanding.
When eating at this restaurant, you should definately make sure that you try the exploded potatoes.
Wonderful job!
Date: August 13, 2003
Truly the best sandwich deli in Frederick. Portions are quite large, ingredients are flavorful and fresh. Both the roast beef sub (the "Embarcadero") and the turkey club (the "Trans Am") are outstanding but the menu selection seems endless. You simply must try the "Exploded Potatoes" (small, if you're also having a sandwich) - its a preparation unique to this restaurant. The setup is self-serve but the staff is accessible and friendly.
Date: April 10, 2003
Frisco's is the best sandwich, soup, and salad place in Frederick, maybe Maryland. What ever you choose to eat, include a small "Exploded Potato" serving. Takeout is popular for lunch meetings, etc.
