We ate at Mountain Gate on the way to our honeymoon. It was very good. Nice country
feeling and great food.

We stopped at mountain gate, on the way to Pennsylvania, for our honeymoon. It was very
good food. Country All The Way. Loved it. We
will go back one day.

I am originally from Chambersburg, Pa, but live in Orlando, Fl. Each time I go to Chambersburg on vacation, I always schedule a trip to Mountain Gate. I promise myself I won't overeat, but always leave stuffed....just can't resist all that great food...and outstanding desserts.

My husband and I visited on a Sunday evening after visiting Gettysburg, PA. We had been hiking during the day as well and were very hungry when we went, so this place was a great choice. The fried chicken and pot roast were especially good as well as many of the vegetables (butterbeans, green beans, etc.). We tried to sample between the two of us just a bite or two from every pie that looked good, but there were way too many to do that! Every pie we tried was delicious. The black raspberry ice cream was wonderful as well. We would highly recommend this place.

the food is great especially the mash potatos and sauerkraut and chicken.

One word....Yummy! I have been enjoying Mt. Gate since I was a little girl, and am still not bored with it! Food is great, service sometimes is a little bad. I went there with my 80 yr old grandmother (who obviously has a harder time walking), they choose to sit us in the farthest corner of the place....so thehostess could have used her brain slightly. Other than those types of things, I love it!

We have stopped here many times while traveling from Pennsylvania to Virginia on the weekends. The place is always packed but the wait is worth it. There is such a great variety of food, that even a picky eater will find something they will like. We like to try a little bit of everything and no one in our group has ever been disappointed. The dessert tables are also loaded with just about every pie and cake you can think of. Everything was delicious.

My family and I went to visit Mountain Gate and I found it to be a really cute country place with lots of unique gifts to purchase. The food was exemplary, especially the beets and fried chicken. Then after a tastey meal, they have the largest selection of desserts that are amazing. The staff has always been very friendly, polite and helpful. I look forward to my next visit. I give this restaurant 2 thumbs up!

A place to go for quantity over quality and you want to stuff yourself until you feel sick. It's OK for down home country cooking but that's about all.

My family use to eat at Mountain Gate every Mothers Day years ago when I was a child. It was always a good experience. I had the chance to go there again with my own children several times in the last 3 years while traveling. They loved it as much as I always have. The food is delicious and there is a good variety. My children's favorite part was the dessert. Every kind imaginable. It was hard for them to pick just one. They look forward to going there now whenever we happen to "be in the neighborhood".

My family and I eat here pretty frequently. The food is good, we always get the buffet, the kids love the variety it offers. If you go too often, however, you can get bored with the selections on the buffet. Spaghetti night is disgusting.

My family have eaten here 4 times in the last few years and we have never been unhappy with the food or the service. The fried chicken is worth a try. We love it. The prices are family reasonable.

Mountain Gate is a wonderful restaurant to go when you are really hungry. They have been doing buffets for a long, long time and really know what people like. I've never been disappointed.

A nice family restaurant, but they do need better staffing. The servers try, but many are worn out and are seniors that can't take the load anymore. The food varies, but with the buffet you can try it all and I'm sure you'll find plenty to like.

We visited this restaurant on the way home from Hershey Park and found the fried chicken from the buffet to be extrememly tasty. It tastes like it was skillet-fried, rather than deep-fried. A light, crispy batter with alot of crunch. The meat was flavorful and not dry or overcooked. Since the atmosphere is casual, it is a great place to go if you have little kids. The prices are also very reasonable. We will visit this restaurant again the next time we are in the area.

We have eaten here several times, and I felt complled to write after this last time. On a holiday or a Sunday, the food is VERY good, and the buffet is well stocked, but we decided to stop on a Friday morning on the way to DC and were sorely disappointed. There was barely enough food to cover one side of the buffet, and what was there was cold. We would visit again on a weekend or a holiday, but will definitely steer clear of going here on a weekday.

We have visited the Mountain Gate twice. We live in Dunkirk, Md. but when we travel in the area of Thurmont we love to dine on the breakfast buffet. The food is always hot and what a variety. The lunch looked absolutely wonderful with those big hams and roast beef sliced on the spot. The only complaint we had was that no one informed us of the buffet prices and how the breakfast & lunch could be combined. We finally found the waitress and she answered our questions about the prices. All in all, we like it very much and would visit again.

Disappointing. That's the only word that comes to mind when I hear the name 'Mountaingate.' Their marquee dish, fried chicken, had too much batter and way too much crunch. Inside, the meat was dry from overcooking. But, I will go back because everyone deserves a second chance. I'm sure there is a reason why people line up for a hundred yards to get in there to eat on Sunday's, but it can't be the fried chicken. Try something else.

We decided to celebrate Father's Day at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant.
With reservations made, we were seated immediately by the hostess. She asked us if we would care for the buffet? We chose the buffet (w/o having a menu handed to us or an explanation of the different food line cost.)
The food was delicious!
The wonderful server gave us our bill and we saw the bill was $54.00 for four people. We asked how much the buffet was out of curiosity. To our surprise, the bill read one breakfast and three breakfast/lunch charges.
When we questioned why we weren't told the difference of prices of buffets, the hostess became involved. We explained to the hostess our confusion and clearly stated the food and service was wonderful. The hostess walked away to talked to our server while rolling her eyes. We found her very unprofessional and inappropriate as a public server and even though the food and server was outstanding, we will never choose to dine there again.

Really good home style prepared cuisine. Highly recommend a visit to this very clean, friendly establishment. Prices are quite reasonable and the fully stocked gift shop will intrigue many varied interests. Although delicious food abounds, frequent diners MAY become slightly bored by the buffet fare. Friday, seafood buffet, highly recommended
