After going here 3 times we will NEVER go back. All 3 times the service was sub-par and the food was mediocre at best. Our drinks were empty on our table for long periods of time and we had to stop someone and ask for refills. Our food was overcooked and cold when it arrived at our table. There was not even an offer from the wait staff to correct the food issues.
Sorry but I will go to the big chains before I go here again.

This place is quite good. The food is a cut above typical bar type food. It is always served hot and tasty. Sometimes the wait can be a bit long. However, the quailty of the beer makes up for the wait. Definitely better than the chain places in the area.

Clean, and friendly, but priced a bit high for a burger and frys place. Tables and booths in a open space arrangement which allows conversation without having to shout. Their steak is good, but the salad was nothing special.

I tried, I really tried to like this place. But, after 4 visits, we finally gave up. The service was ok, but the food was mediocre to poor. Such a shame - I like to give entrepreneurs my business when I can - but they have to do better than this.

I live in Baltimore City but my coworker from Frederick recommended Barley and Hops. Last Saturday I decided I wanted to finally visit Charlestown slots so Frederick was a good place to eat to break up the ride. We arrived at 9:30pm and it was an adult environment. The food and service were good. That day was St. Patrick's day and my husband had a green beer which was a nice touch. I had the $14.00 special which was sliced BBQ with a excellent sauce, flavorful mash potatoes and a great tasting house salad. We Will definitely go again. I found out the coupons are mailed locally and are for the weekdays, but if you ask the right employee you might get one for the next visit.

Been here four times. Service was usually good to very good and is clean especially the silverware. The one and only one Vegan stir fry offered is so loaded with vinegar it is unbearable. Veggies were swimming in it. Salads are good. There is only one vegetarian mushroom samdwich. With all the veggies they are offering with their meat dinners, you would think that the chef could get a little more creative. Noisy place even when it is not busy so if you want to have a quiet conversation, perhaps select another place.

If you want the same selection everytime, then follow the masses to your neighborhood chain restaurant. But, if you crave something different, including some of the best beer in town to go with it, go to Barley and Hops.

This place is great, I go back there a lot and always great service even on busy weekends. Sandwiches are excellent and the beers are good. I've been here 4 times and it's always been a wonderful place to eat. Lunch time is quiet and dinner time is more packed but you get great service. I highly recommend.

Food is Fair, Atmosphere Fair - too many kids and noisy.

Nice to avoid the chains, and although there's always a good crowd, you'll seldom have to wait. Beers brewed on premise tend to be well above average. Food is a little inconsistent but usually very good. Service is better than most, as well. Watch for coupons that allow you to buy one entree, get one free (note that it doesn't work on daily specials though).

Our waitress greeted us and revealed that the cook did not know what temperature pork should be cooked to... what was she thinking? We should have left then... what were we thinking? The French Dip sandwich was loaded with fat. The salad was soaked with dressing. In fairness, broccoli soup was good. The service was poor. We had to ask for drink refills and no one came to check on us after our food was delivered. This is unacceptable from a place that prints on their menu and checks that a 15% gratuity in expected because they employ quality servers. I have a different definition of quality!

Great happy hour prices and beer. Food is usually above average - not generic type. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is loud - like a cafeteria.

The food is great. They have a wonderful variety of beers brewed on site. And the Wednesday lobster special is great! (Just make sure you get there early for it.)

Awesome food, especially love the portabello mushroom.
