We LOVE this place! Truly the best Japanese food in Frederick! You can buy your movie tickets here before seeing the movie in the same Westview Promenade. Then... You can save your ticket stub and bring it back to the restaurant your next visit and you get 10 percent off of your check!!! We just took 5 friends visiting there and wow was it worth taking that ticket stub back with us!!! Food is always great and the experience is to be enjoyed by ALL ages. Hope this helps.

    Tips for a better dinner.

Be sure to order the miso soup instead of the broth.
Order the regular salad instead of ginger dressing.

The chef does matter a lot for taste and overall experience. Kai is the best by far for both. We will not eat there unless he is our chef or he is not there.

My only complaint is the inside condition of the restaurant. It could use a good cleaning and updating since you feel sticky just walking inside. Definitely need a shower after dinner cause your clothes will smell like the place.

We've had a few enjoyable experiences at Matsutake, but after this weekend's visit, we will not be back. We were planning to see a 7:30 movie and slipped into the (not very crowded) bar at 6:30 for a drink/sushi appetizer. The bartender kept saying our order would be out "soon." At 7:30, after we'd been waiting an hour, he discovered he'd neglected to put in our order. Oops.

We missed our movie AND got no sushi but repaired to the excellent Shab Row Wine Bistro for a terrific date night in the end.

    Very impressed,
I have visited a number of Japanese Steak house's. This by far is the best. The location adds to the evening, offering movie's and shopping.
There food is excellent, maintaining the highest standards. It appears they have a new bartender that makes great drinks and is very personable.
It does take time to get your drinks and food, however it is not fast food. And quality is their mainstay.
    A must for all!!

My husband and I just celebrated our 13 year wedding anniversary at Matsutake Sushi and Steak. It was amazing.

The sushi and steak were out-of-this-world. I'm a lightweight when it comes to sushi. I know what I like. I was impressed by the layout of the menu. I'm often confused of what to order and I forget the official names of the fish I like. The menu had explanations of all the dishes which helped me order what I wanted. I also ordered Hibachi (Filet Mignon) with fried rice. The steak (well done - the way I ordered it) and the fried rice were excellent. I've only had better steak at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

The service was perfect! Our waitress, the only one in the restaurant, was attentive and timely. Everything I want in service. When I finish with a dish, I usually set it to the side for easy pick up. I was impressed that other employees helped clear away those dishes quietly and with a smile.

The atmosphere was excellent. Even though we sat at a table rather than the Hibachi tables, the noise level from the "shows" were not bothersome at all. We were able to hold a conversation without interruption from the events at the tables. They must have thought about sound travel when they planned the layout of the restaurant.

I would highly recommend Matsutake Sushi and Steak!

Dinner is excellent Food and service have always been wonderful

Attempted to go to lunch with 6 co-workers and was turned away since we did not have a reservation. Very disappointing to say the least. We offered to sit in different sections and the place was not busy but we were just flat out refused service. Not sure if I will ever go back because of this.

This place was great, great atmosphere and food. I have been there a million times and enjoyed it every time. (And my husband says that I'm too picky!) The staff is wonderful, courteous and friendly, the lunch sushi buffet is wonderful! The dinner show is spectacular.

I just love Japaneese food period. I am a huge sushi fan but I have to disagree with the comment from Nic, Matsutake is not the best for sushi in Frederick, MD. Go to Roppongi if you want sushi. Now as far as the hibachi food, Matsutake has everyone beaten hands down. Miyako's isnt even close to them. I've been there and the food and atmosphere is ok but its not anything special, not by a lomg shot. Matsutake is a very good restaurant to visit.

We didn't have any reservations and we were a party of seven. It was primetime Thursday night. We were greeted as soon as we came in the door and seated. The food was wonderful.
We did have to wave for a waitress twice for refills but otherwise the experience was very nice and I would definately dine there again.

I just love japaneese restaurants and this one is one of the best! The chefs do put on a show and the food is excellent. Frederick is blessed with a few good japaneese restaurants but this one is the best. They give you more food than the others for your money. The sushi is good but a little pricey. If you want the best sushi the Roppongi over on the Golden Mile is better in taste and price.

My family and I love this restaraunt. The food is spectacular, and the service never dissapoints. A bit pricey? Yes, but worth the extra money.

The food is pretty good and the chefs do put on a good show, but it's definitely worth your time to go to one of the two Miyakos instead.

I have dined here a lunch a few times now and their sushi buffet is excellent! Lots of good choices, although I miss the tobiko on the California roll. The buffet also includes miso soup, gyoza, vegetable tempura, etc, all for $11.95 plus tax. I haven't tried the hibachi yet.

This is my absolute favorite place to dine in Frederick.

The service is friendly and GREAT; The chefs interact with the guests. The fried rice is mouth-watering! The salad is amazing and I don't even like salad. I have never seen anyone eat at Matsutake without a smile on their face and a full stomach at the end of the day. The only thing that keeps me from going to Matsutake on a regular basis is the price.

My boyfriend and I have been to Matsutake multiple times this year. We've never had any reason to complain. The friends and relatives we've brought have been eager to go back as well. The food is well worth the price, the drink list is extensive, and the service is fantastic.

Went there last night with a friend for the 1st time. Was impressed by the style of cooking, but the service was terrible. I tried to flag down our waitress 3 times and she kept looking over my shoulder at customers coming in and made them her 1st priority. The food was good, but service means a lot to me. I'm going to try Miyakos next time.

When you have an experienced chef, both the food and the interaction are exceptional. If you have borderline experienced chef, the food is usually very good and the interaction sometimes loses to concentration. Beginner chefs usually have limited interaction because they are definitely getting used to the cooking style or just haven't gotten used to the situation...they also tend to be the most uneven in cooking as well.

I have noticed that here, as in most restaurants, the beginners are more seen during the day shift than at night.

That said, I have only one time had food that I didn't care for and that was from a beginner chef. I had him again a couple months later and he was much improved all around.

Truthfully,House of Kobe was definitely the best of the Hibachi-style restaurants in the area, but the strain of maintaining two restaurants (here and the original in Hagerstown)caused an ownership change and the quality went down until that restaurant ceased to exist. I've been to Miyako twice and didn't care for it either time. There's a really good (although slightly surreal one) in Morgantown, WV and if you are ever in Kilgore,TX, please do not even let yourself be tempted to go to the one there.

Poor service? Never. Chefs don't interact? Ridiculous.

This is my 3 year old son's favorite restaurant for the very reason that the staff does interact and is very friendly and courteous. We have never eaten a bad meal here. The scallops are delicious!

    Go- enjoy!

Awesome sushi! Very good service, too. The unagi, in particular, was a treat. I've had some unagi that is too dry, but Matsutake's was tender and flavorful.

    GO!

Between this place and miyakos, I would chose miyakos hands down. The service is terrible and the atmosphere isnt much better. The sushi is about the only thing that is good here, the hibachi grill isnt that nice.

The chefs dont interact with you, unlike at miyakos they always put on a show.

MY OPINION DRIVE ANOTHER 5 MINUTES AND GET A BETTER TIME FOR YOUR MONEY. GO TO MIYAKOS!!

Wonderful atmosphere and food. Many more items included with the Hibachi menu items then other steak houses I have been too. Can't wait to return for more! The servers were great and they could sing well too!

Moving out here to Frederick I thought I was leaving my love for sushi behind me in Baltimore, Little did I know that I would find the best sushi resturant I have ever eaten at in Frederick. The assortment of sushi is AMAZING! and the sushi chef is awesome he made us Spicy Fatty Tuna rolls. OMG it was the best thing ever. The food is magnificent and so is the service. I have never sat at the grill table thing because the sushi is just so good! GO EAT THERE!
