It's just a nicer place to eat than many of the more expensive downtown restaurants. The food is quirky, but if you don't need a slab of beef, it has something for everybody else. The service isn't pretentious, but they do a good job. I would easily recommend The Orchard for a night out.

Big disappointment. To start with, the waiter was disheveled; he seemed he couldn't be bothered to tuck in his shirt and he badly needed a shave (he didn't look hip...he just looked like an out of shape bum). Still, I was hoping this restaurant could deliver on the promise of a great vegetarian meal. Instead, what I got was a bowl of veggies bathed in what looked and tasted suspiciously like a can of warmed up Campbell's tomato soup. No use of spices to flavor things up -- just soggy vegs and lousy sauce, all at an inflated price. Suffice to say I will never go back to this place again.

Perfect for vegetarians/vegans. And you can bring your non-veg friends. I love that everything is healthy and reasonably priced

Best soups in Frederick. Crunchiest, generous salads with awesome dressings...tomato tamari anyone?
But the best thing about the Orchard besides soup salad and stir frys....the tuna salad...it's the best anywhere!!!!!

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Frederick. The food is always fresh, healthful, well-prepared and delicious. The service is excellent and the environment is formal, yet simple and comfortable. Everything I have tried has been yummy.

The service is good and the food is out of this world. If you are looking for simple, good food, fresh and natural, this is the place. We have a friend with food allergies, the server (Matt I think) listened to what the issues were, repeated back to us to that we were sure he understood and followed up later saying, "I checked again, and I am sure you will have no issues with this". Given the life and death issues she has with milk products, it was great that we could eat knowing there were no hidden surprises.

I will say the environment is a little plain, not cheap mind you, just nothing that really stands out as anything more than walls and floors, the window does distract you from this, but as we were in the back room, the bland interior really stands out. I hope they can do something to remedy this in the future, because it is the only thing that made this place just a little less than PERFECT!

We ordered 2 Tofu Hummus sandwiches, a Chicken Ruben, Onion Rings, the Choc & PB Square, Lime Custard and Pear Crunch. I would order them all again, no questions.

This has been for many years, and remains, our favorite restaurant in Frederick County. The Orchard is where we bring family and friends from out of town to show off our charming downtown Frederick, yet this restaurant is also a great value--reasonable prices, delicious well-prepared food, generous portions, a great menu, a quiet, pleasant, attractive atmosphere, friendly, professional service.... The owner is often the chef.... We get courteous greetings from all the good people who work there; the Orchard's employees like the owner too and so they stay there a long time.... We love their house salad with amazing sesame vinaigrette dressing, and we also both love the Indian stir fry. I also love the European and Japanese stir-fries, while my husband is more likely to often choose the seafood jambolaya. We can't sample the rest of the menu properly unless we start coming in twice a week--because we get cravings for all our favorites :) I wish they had a creamy milk chocolate dessert (cake? ice cream?) but otherwise we cannot say enough about this rare jewel in Frederick. And please don't miss noticing the famous Paul Baker trompe d'ouile ("fool the eye") paintings "hidden" on the outside wall--the ones that started all the excitement about street art in Frederick...so beautiful. We love the one-of-a-kind art inside too. If you're visiting Frederick, I assure you of a lovely memorable dining experience whether for two or for a group. We love Frederick, and our greatly-appreciated, always reliable Orchard, where we've never had anything except a delicious meal and a wonderful time.

The Orchard is awesome! The spinach and cheese egg rolls are AMAZING and all the stir fries are great! My only complaint is that it should be open every day!

We're regulars. Fantastic FRESH food prepared with care, served with energy from the young and friendly staff. Hi, Hannah, Jeffrey, Chloe! Don't miss the mushroom barley soup, the gazpacho, or the chicken w/ brie. And if you leave without a piece of the summer desert cobbler, shame on you!

Just ate there for the second time today; another great lunch. Excellent, natural-oriented, wholesome, homemade/from-scratch-tasting food, which is the kind of food I seek out when eating away from home. Reminds me very much of the goodness found at the Battery Park Bistro in Asheville, NC. The Orchard is what I call *high quality* and yet has reasonable prices too. I found out they've actually been open a long time; wish I'd learned about them sooner.

For fresh, delicious food carefully prepared & artfully presented, The Orchard can't be beat. It's my favorite place for a business lunch, because I never have to think about my order (Large house salad with chicken & 2 tomato-tamari dressings on the side)...which is consistently wonderful; I never get tired of it. Lots of regulars who know the wait staff and owners by name creates a homey feel...new age as it is in vibe, The Orchard is about as close to a neighborhood "pub" as we get in Frederick. Don't skip the homemade wheat bread, even if you're on one of those tiresome no-carb regimens. Desserts are quite good, too-- try the pear crisp with vanilla ice cream.

This used to be THE best for vegans but the last several times I visited (a regular since they opened on Patrick St.!) was a great let down. The tempura ginger/tamari sauce was so watered down as well as the dressing that it was sadly lacking any flavor. Lentil soups are so thick they should be called stews. I still give it 4 stars because, really, they are the only one in town offering such a large vegan selection but I miss the flavors that made the Orchard--the Orchard. Jim, please address these issues!

On a recent vist to Frederick three of us enjoyed a delicious lunch in the pleasant atmosphere of the Orchard Cafe. Dasly two of us live too far away (England) to make this a regular stop but recommend it warmly.

    Try the tempura; it's fantastic! My fiance and I would go here more if they were open more...;

Food was really interesting, they are not a strictly vegan restaurant. The service is really fast and the environment is nice and chill. One thing of notice is that they still had Sam Adam's Octoberfest on tap (its currently August) but they also have McHenry on tap.

I'd recommend this place to a couple who just wants to spend a nice evening together and possibly try something new, I'd say its not a good place to bring kids though.

I genuinely enjoyed the Orchard. The food was well-prepared and delicious. YUMMY bread. I went with non-vegetarian friends, many of whom have now made the Orchard their lunch spot. So those who assume vegetarians have no taste buds (I've met you, don't deny it!), don't cross the place off your list because of the dreaded "V" word. Speaking as a vegetarian, it is such a treat not to have to ask about potential meat products in every blessed dish. The service is friendly and prices are reasonable.

My favorite place! Entrees are unique and tasty... but most of all healthy. My compliments to the chef! No one can duplicate perfection.... and anyone who knows anything about the cost of organic food would agree that the price is right! Thanks for consistant great taste.

I have spent the past year and a half trying all the restaurents in downtown area. This one has the best food, hands down.

We had sauteed mushrooms and gazpacho for appetizers - and they were great - we even had to order an extra bread to eat the sauce covering the mushrooms. We had a stir fry entree Japanese style(there are around 8 different stir-fry entrees) and a grilled tuna steak with jerk rub. The stir-fry was loaded with vegetables, and the tuna steak was flavorful - if not as rare as we like. The desserts looked good, but we were too full to eat one. The wine was very cheap. There was nothing of expensive vinatge on the list, but the markup was very low for the wine they had - the most expensive bottle was $20.

I can't believe this place wasn't crowded. We walked in with no reservation at 8:30pm on a saturday and were seated immediately.

The service was very good. This is my favorite place in Frederick.

Very friendly, but slow service and frankly, the food is too "homey" for me (in that I could recreate most of it at home). I like the concept of healthy, organic foods, but the execution falls short and it wasn't inexpensive for what you get. Less crowded than many downtown eateries.

It was great having a resturant that serviced creative vegetarian food! Of course I loved the salad dressing!

The atmosphere was splendid. I could not say enough about the place!

In my opinion, The Orchard has the best food in Frederick. It is fresh, flavorfull, and light. The service is friendly and the large windows to the street provide an atmoshpere that offsets the slightly bland interior (the restaurants only drawback). In terms of food, The Orchard can't be beat.

Comments on this restaurant? They have very tasty well prepared food. I know when I eat there I'm getting a more healthy oriented meal. It has a casual decor and feels comfortable. It is very clean. Their key lime custard is to DIE FOR!
