This is a place I've been going to since it first opened. I love their pizzas (we always get one with sausage and mushrooms), their seafood salad, and their pastas. Their portions are ample and I typycially bring home leftovers.
One of my favorite pasta dishes is the Salsicce alla Napoletana. It's penne pasta with Italian sausage, sliced, in a light marinara sauce. I was here for lunch recently with a friend. She ordered the salad with the steak on top. Huge salad!
Prices are reasonable, although I did notice their prices have gone up a buck or so since they first opened. It's not big difference, especially since their prices are on par with other Italian restuarants in the area.
Great place for families. Very good service too from the staff.
They have specials too, such as buy one pizza, get one free (take out only), and pasta specials.
We at there the other night and I must say it was disappointing. I'm not sure what is different as we have had pizza and take out on several occasions that was excellent. However our service was almost non existant, once the food arrived the lasagna was basically a mozzarella cheeseburger soaked in oil with one noodle. My wife order some pasta that chef boyardee would turn his nose at. I'm hoping this was just an off visit but I won't be returning.
I love this restaurant. The staff is always friendly and accommodating when necessary. You are greeted in a friendly way and a cheerful person is always at the door. Since Frederick is a small town, you get to know the staff and they get to know you. They know what you like and they strive to please. The manager is very nice. Their pizza is the best in Frederick and I love their strombolis. Prices are reasonable. This is a great place to eat or take out. I have tried other Italian restaurants in Frederick and they cannot compare to Mama Lucia's. I am very glad they are here.
Chris and Roddy and crew do a great job. I would drive past a dozen pizza chain stores for Mamma's pizza. AWESOME! Many other dishes are on par with DC's best spots. Server Kathryn is particularly friendly and sweet. All there do anything they can to make your experience pleasant. I think the place is great.
We love this restaurant. We are from NY and have always lamented about the lack of decent pizza in this area. Mama Lucia's is the best we have found so far. It is delicious. As far as the other dishes go, we have never ordered something that we did not love. All their food is great. The service is wonderful. The restaurant is very kid friendly.
Me being Italian I am spoled by my mom's cooking so you gotta believe me when I say this place is great
Overall this is a decent restaurant. The food is okay but is not outstanding. In fact, for about the same $, nearby Carrabba's or the Macaroni Grill is a better Italian food choice and dining experience. The complimentary bread and oil is not good as good as that available at the other restaurants. We also get inconsistent service depending on what staff is working, e.g., sometimes we get charged for their "garlic nuggets" and then sometimes we do not get charged. You never know what to expect, depending on who is working.
The food is wonderful and the staff is superb. Chris and Roddy make the dining experience enjoyable with their sincere customer appreciation. They love to get to know their patrons and go out of their way to make your visit memorable. The menu is quite diverse and everything I have sampled has been out of this world. Generous portions and great service keep me coming back over and over.
Awful. Just awful.
Everything was oily.
The bread was toasted until it was burnt and rock hard - and the kitchen had the audacity to send it to our table.
The calamari was basically fryer oil, batter and bits of calamari. Truly disgusting.
The pizza was awful- the dough tasted like something from a box and the sauce was from a can.
The pesto was actually a ton of cream and butter with pesto seasoning- as though they had no idea what pesto was.
This was a disgusting meal. Save your money and time and just order Domino's or something instead.
For a chain type it's good. Service has always been consistent too and they have a nice lunch menu. Good overall!
We relocated from NY, we were very worried about getting decent italian food in Maryland. Shortly after our arrival Mamma Lucia's was open and a love affair was born! The food is as good if not better than "NY italian",with pizza that is terrific for all, specials nights that are really great on a budget and we have searched far and wide for a place that does seafood better than the chef at Mammas. A place to take the kids any night or on a romantic evening out we still can't resist. Chris and all the staff are wonderful and familiar and it is our go-to place. Don't hesitate. Get to Mamma's !
Best Italian food in Frederick!!!! My family and I visit Mamma Lucia almost every Sunday and the owner, Roddy, always greets us with a smile. The food and service is always wonderful.
I have eaten at Mamma's often and have always enjoyed there food and atmosphere. This is a great place for casual dinning. Great entrees and really good pizza too!
Love It! Love it!...A great family oriented restaurant...Staff is always so helpful and friendly...The Manager is always there to greet you and the call ahead is a great convenience too....Food is Wonderful and Plenty....
This is a great little spot! It is great to have a spot in this location, as there are few dining options if you live in Walkerville without having to go all the way into Frederick. The food is great, but even better is the service. The owner is very friendly & the staff makes sure you are completely satisfied & if you are not for any reason they make sure they fix what ever was wrong. I recommend trying the nightly specials as well. We order a pizza almost every single Friday. The kids love it! This is a great spot!
You have to try this place. Its a very comfy family friendly place. I love the "herbal" olive oil and the nice bread they serve. My personal fav is veal chesapeake. You gotta have it!
I have been there about a half dozen times and it is great. I love the Salmon Rose. Service is good and the owner seems to be aware of things as he is usually hanging out checking on people. I recommend it. The prices are a little on the high side. I would say that the prices as of March 2006 run from $17 -$25 per entree. However, you can split an entree with another diner for $5 or so. This is well worth it. The portions are big and I usually take some home for lunch the next day. Best bets are linguini, Salmon Rose, and any of their pizza. Also, kid friendly, they have a kids menu. Kids menu is reasonable and the kids love the pasta. I have never been there and my kids did not clear their plates.
