So friendly- they make me feel like I am an all-star customer! I am really into sushi and this place is absolutely the best in Frederick- I don't have to drive all the way to VA to get my sushi now that I have discovered this place. My husband and I also believe the sea weed salad is delicious. If you would like something special-made they are very accommodating. Highly, highly recommend this business! As others have said, it is a wonderful place for a date. They must have updated since some of the negative atmosphere comments were posted. Don't go anywhere else for sushi!

We couldn't be happier with the service and atmosphere of Roppongi. We go at least 4-5 times a month. The owners/servers are very delightful & attentitive. The sushi is always delicious, especially the Manhattan Rolls =). It is def. the perfect date place - its quiet & romantic! <3

I must say that Roppongi is the best sushi in Frederick - hands down. While Hinode, Matasuke, and Miyako are good - they are at best "just another japanese steakhouse" and vastly over priced. They CAN'T TOUCH the QUALITY of the sushi at Roppongi. I do feel that the service can be a little off-putting at times.. they can be slow to get the check, not keep your drink filled, or not clear the table for dessert. I've had all 3 of these happen to me - though, not all in the same visit fortunately. I have always been greeted with a HUGE smile and treated like a guest should be - and when/if they notice that something may have been slow or had the chance to not be completely satisfactory.. the waitress has been apologetic and sincere. All in all - great food, reasonably priced, quaint atmosphere.. and BOMB sushi!!!

We enjoy sushi and have very high standards, and love this place. We've probably eaten here over twenty times in the last three years and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere could be improved ... the carpet is a little tired and the interior design is a little dated, but the sushi is fresh, delicious and a great value. Most rolls range from about $5 to about $10. The menu is diverse, with a lot of roll and sashimi options. The owners are ALWAYS there personally serving partrons and ensuring the highest quality of service. We love this place!!

Tempura was covered in heavy batter. Dipping sauce was syrupy. I felt I was eating vegetable pancakes. Tuna roll had avocado, probably to reduce costs. Prices were high. Service was slow. If you think this place is great you need to get out more.

For those complaining that it takes forever to get your check, keep in mind that the Japanese people are at all times careful not to offend anyone, especially their patrons. They won't offer the check for fear that you might take it as an insult that they were rushing you out the door. When you are ready to leave, simply ask for the check.

I have tried several different places for sushi in the MD and PA area and Roppongi does it best. Absolutely delicious

This is a small family business that's been in the same unfortunate location for well over a decade. While the other businesses around it have come and gone, Roppongi has remained, and thank God! Without a doubt this is the best sushi in town and you'd probably have to go to Bethesda or DC to find its equal. The maki and nigiri shusi are always fresh, the rice expertly seasoned, tender and delicate. Their miso soup has the best tasting broth I've encountered anywhere and is topped off by bits of freshly fried tempura batter, unique and flavorful. Other favorites include their Udon soups and their chirashi bowl is a real winner.
All that said, you must realize this is a family run business with a very small, but very friendly staff. Expect service to be slow, or as one other reviewer put it, unhurried. If you need your check quickly, just ask while ordering so they are aware of your needs. As with all good sushi, the prices can be a bit higher than most local restaurants, except of course for seafood. Expect to pay around $30 per adult for the meal if everyone has as large an appetite as I do for this excellent food!

A wonderful place to find fresh sashimi. I love this place, it is fresh, friendly, and always a great time. For the quality of the sushi and sashimi you are given, it is a awesome deal. My personal favorite is their octopus. I have been to other sushi restaurants in the area, and it could not measure up to Roppongi

I was introduced to this place by my best friend and we had so much sushi in front of us that we could barley finish it all. The sushi is delicious and the staff is pleasant and it has a nice family feel to it, and not the corporate ways of other places. I would recommend this place to anyone.

New to Frederick, and went to this place based on the reviews on this site. Keep in mind, I have nothing to compare to within frederick, and my opinion is based on one visit.
I enjoy japanese food, and have been to many, many restaurants across the country and Japan. Although this was not the worst Japanese food I've had, it is firmly on the bottom 10%. Went with some friends, and here is our opinion:
Miso soup: Oddly enough had some sort of crispy fried things added. Otherwise tasted fine.
Salad: Didn't finish it. The dressing was terrible.
Japanese Spinach Salad. I think they used frozen spinach, not good.
Yakitori - Pretty good
Sushi - Soggy. Probably the worst sushi I've tasted
Sashimi - Really low-grade fish. Tuna, Salmon, and mackerel were flavorless. In fact, they tasted the same, as if they were stored atop one another.
Chicken Katsu - Not good if you've ever had katsu before.
Tempura - Heavy batter. More of a fish-and-chips batter. Also served cold.
My friends and I agreed that this place was a 3/10 or so. Might go back once again to ensure my visit wasn't an anomaly.

I went there today after many years, and the sushi was better than I remembered. Service was good, and they were very polite. Though it will never beat Cafe Kyoko, it will do.

We've eaten sushi in some of the top notch locales in the country. Roppongi is *better* than the best I've had (a place in mid-town Manhattan, just off of Times Square had been my #1 before Roppongi). The spicy tempura shrimp roll was outstanding. Five stars is not enough !

Roppongi has without a doubt the best Sushi in Frederick! The rice is cooked correctly, the nori is never tough, the fish is extremely fresh, and offered in generous portions.
Most of their appetizers are 4 star as well! I highly recommend the Age Tofu, best I've had anywhere. As is their miso soup. And don't get me started on the dumplings/gyoza........
The place is small and cozy, not like those cookie cutter steak houses. It's likely that the man making your Sushi is the owner, and the woman serving you, his co-owner and wife. They are very gracious, and unhurried, which makes for a relaxing experience. Enjoy!

This was hands down our favorite sushi joint when we lived in Frederick. The people are wonderful, the sushi is fantastic, and no one else puts those crunchies in the miso soup like they do!

Great Sushi. The comments on service are fair (it isn't the best.) However, I've had problems with service at all of the Fredeick Sushi Restaurants (not that that's an excuse)

Finally I've found a Japanese restaurant in Frederick, good enough that I don't have to go to Montgomery County every time I need to fulfill my need for sushi. The sushi was very nice quality and was served quite quickly. The prices were reasonable and the service, though not super friendly, was super efficient. The ambience was fairly inviting, but most importantly, the food is great. After reading the other reviews, I was sure to specify "I would like the check now" so as not be kept waiting and it worked like a charm.

The service is very slow. It takes forever to get your check and get out the door. Food is good and the ice cream is better. I got the green tea flavor.

I have nothing bad to say about Roppongi. I love the sushi. It's not the best I've had but its very close. The woman who usually serves us is very pleasant and obviously concerned about our enjoyment of the food. We really enjoy eating here. Get the red bean ice cream.

The service is absolutely horrible. The first time I attempted to eat at this place, no one acknowledged me. After 15 minutes, I left. The 2nd time, no one acknowledged me again so I walked up to the staff and asked about the special. They looked at me like I was interrupting their work. No one wanted answer my question. When I asked how long it would take to get my order, the guy scuffed at me and said "we have a lot of orders already and you should have called your order in." I was so shocked I said thanks and left. The food can't be that great to endure bad service.

The sushi here rates as high if not higher than anything I had while living in California. My wife and I love the setting, the quietness and the fact that it is,"mom and pop." Anyone who loves sushi, or want to try it for the first time, I highly recommend Roppongi!!!!

If anything, the Sushi is the star of the varied menu. The Spicy Tuna Roll is the best anywhere. The shrimp tempura roll is a taste treat. They offer a $19.95 combination dinner that includes a salad, soup an aromatic seaweed salad, fried dumplings (pot-stickers) a choice of chicken or beef teriyaki, several pieces of vegetable tempura, AND your choice of any Sushi Roll. It is the best Japanese sit-down dinner in Frederick. Oh, don't forget to try the Miso Soup. Best in town.

I am very particular about the quality of sushi I eat since I am a big sushi eater. I have been to most sushi/ Japanese places in Frederick MD and Roppongi is so far the best.

This place has the best sushi in Frederick in my opinion. The prices are reasonable but the service is lacking at best. My biggest problem with Roppongi's is that it takes forever to get the check. I always have to ask for it before I can leave. A must try if you enjoy good sushi. They have other things too but I usually just get sushi.

I am really picky about sushi, having come from the west coast where it is phenomenal. I have tried all of the sushi restaurants in town and Roppongi is by far the freshest and the best. (Their miso soup is a big hit too with all of my friends.) I like the chirashi- more fresh fish than anywhere else in town, more variety, for a better price. It is also a Mom and Pop place, so you are not supporting a chain. It does not have the whole hibachi-high-tempo thing going on, which I prefer.
